The event, held at the Cyprus Community Centre, was led by President Theo Theophanous, who recognised Keti Georgiou, Dimitris Ioannou, Lambrini Lambrou Christopher, and Claire Gazis OAM for their “outstanding service over the years”.
President Theophanous praised the members for their long-standing commitment to the National Cyprus Issue and their ongoing involvement in cultural initiatives within the community.
Each of the honourees was awarded the prestigious title of “Honourary Life Member” for pledging their continued support to one of the oldest and most active communities in Melbourne.
Keti Georgiou, known for being the first woman to join the then male-dominated GCMV Board of Directors, continues to champion the Cyprus cause through her work with the Cyprus program on 3ZZ radio and her involvement in cultural affairs.=
Dimitris Ioannou spoke about his participation in organising the GCMV Wine and Haloumi festivals.
Lambrini Lambrou Christopher highlighted her role in presenting the Saturday Cypriot program on 3XY, which connects the wider community, and the joy she finds in this work.
Claire Gazis OAM reflected on her 36-year dedication to producing special supplements on the Turkish invasion of Cyprus for Neos Kosmos and her involvement in organising and presenting GCMV’s annual cultural events.
