UK Cypriot Phanos Theophanous was awarded the Private Banker/Investment Manager of the Year at the Citywealth Magic Circle Awards 2024.

The awards took place in London at One Great George Street, Conference & Venue on Wednesday 15 May, while Phanos was on a business trip in Hong Kong.

He wrote on his Facebook page: “Proud career moment!!! What a fantastic way to wake up in Hong Kong! Pleased to have won the Private Banker/Investment Manager of the year award at the Citywealth Magic Circle Awards in London. A million thanks to my amazing team and my super supportive and understanding family whom without this wouldn’t have been achieved!!!”

Phanos is a Managing Director and Co-Head Strategic Clients & Family Offices for the International Private Banking division of Barclays in the UK. He is responsible for leading the origination and coverage of select strategic clients and coordinating the delivery of the bank’s full range of expertise, products and solutions to Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) individuals, their investment entities, private wealth structures and family offices.

Phanos was born in Nicosia and he came to UK to study in 1995. Upon completing a MSc in Mathematics at the University of York in the UK, he joined Deloitte London in 2001. In 2005, he moved to Deloitte Cyprus and rose to Partner in the Private Client Services team within eight years. At Deloitte he advised clients in CIS, Eastern Europe and the Middle East on their wealth planning needs.

He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, a Chartered Wealth Manager and holds an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

He joined Barclays in October 2011 as a Managing Director in the UHNW & Family Offices team.

Furthermore, he was named Leading Individual (Banker) at the WealthBriefing European awards in 2019 and he has also been featuring in the Spears 500 as a Top Recommended UHNW Wealth Manager and the Spears Wealth Management Index consecutively since 2017.

Outside work, Phanos sits on the Strategic Foresight Board of Circular Economy Alliance, he is the co-founder and President of the Cypriots in the City, a Member of the Board of the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood, a Member of the Secretariat of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK and a Member of the Board of the Charalambos & Elena Pattihis Foundation (registered charity). In the past he served as a Trustee of ArtCity Nights (a UK registered charity) for 6 years, and he has also served as a Member of the International Committee of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments.
