UK CYPRIOT MARCUS EDWARDS HELPS HIS TEAM SPORTING LISBON TO BECOME THE PORTUGUESE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS
UK Cypriot Marcus Edwards seen here with our Michael Yiakoumi helped his team Sporting Lisbon to become the Portuguese football champions on Sunday.
After second-place Benfica lost 2-0 at Famalicao, Sporting clinched the 2024 Portuguese Primeira Liga title with two games to spare.
Jose Luis Rodriguez and Zaydou Youssouf scored second-half goals to end Benfica’s contention.
Sporting are at the top of the league standings with 84 points in 32 matches.
Their city rivals Benfica have 76 points.
Sporting have won their 20th Portuguese title, their first since 2021.
Marcus Edwards is the son of Darren and Andre who is of Cypriot origin his Grandparents from Xylofagou and Aradippou he is London born and bred in Camden and attended Winchmore Hill School and has represented England at Under-16, Under-17 Under 18 and under 20 levels and is a former Tottenham player.
