Triumphant AEK U15s win Watford Friendly League Cup Fina

AEK 5 St Albans City 1

AEK U15’s put aside a dramatic week where they missed out on the title to give an outstanding team performance to lift the League Cup.

A week where they played 6 games took its toll with the squad drained of energy and leaving their cup final opponents to claim the league title. However, these AEK youngsters have an inner spirit, unity and togetherness and were very determined to make a winning start to their two cup final week.

They never take the easy route as they fell behind to an early penalty scored by Archie Blake. It was the first goal St Albans scored against AEK in four meetings. AEK wasted no time in going forward not to just level but take a 2-1 lead with a stunning 25 yard curler from Kyros Louca and a deft header from a set piece by Marcus Musni. The team now settled in their rhythm and just before half time captain Lucca Chrysostomou once again pulled the trigger to send his free kick low and hard and firmly past the keeper and into the net for a 3-1 half time lead.

The whole team was now playing with confidence but also mindful of complacency showing respect for their opponents to give nothing away. They knew St Albans would come strong in the second half and coaches Stathi and Marino recognised this (especially as they were missing regular CB Arjon). They moved leading goal scorer Lucca to the heart of the defence alongside John, Henry, Amarion and Hendrick. Not only did they keep St Albans at bay, but AEK became more dangerous on the counter, with their speedy forwards, Tristan, Michael and Nehemia causing havoc and danger.

The midfield trio of Sami, Jatian and Kyros were pulling the strings and moving the ball well and created many problems for St Albans who were simply overrun. With the opposition deflated and AEK dominating, they secured victory with two excelllent breakaway goals by rapid striker, Angel Miya.

It was a very competitive and entertaining game, appreciated by the enthusiastic support and AEK are now looking forward to a repeat performance in next Sunday’s Challenge Cup final at Harvesters FC.

Scorers; Angel 2, Marcus, Kyros , Lucca.
Player of the match: Marcus , an outstanding performance full of energy, quality and discipline.
