Sixteen-year-old Vera Tugolukova, the latest member of the Cyprus Olympic team

Sixteen-year-old Rhythmic Gymnastics athlete, Vera Tugolukova, is the seventh member of the Cyprus Olympic team who is to take part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

According to the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the success of the 16-year-old athlete was recorded at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships held in Budapest. She secured the only qualifying card given by this championship for the Olympic Games, after outperforming all the other gymnasts who participated and had the right to claim the qualification, it said.

The 16-year-old athlete of the A. Trikomitis Club, collected 130.550 points in four apparatuses.  Tugolukova scored 31.750 in Hoop, 34.000 in Ball, 33.950 in Clubs, and 30.850 in Ribbon. The scores of all four were taken into account for the Olympic qualification.

With this score, she simultaneously made it in the top eight of the Individuals finals in Clubs (2nd) and Ball (5th), as well as in the Combined category where she ranked 11th (99.700) and in which 24 gymnasts will take part.

Maria Avgousti also qualified for the finals of the Individuals all-round competition, with a score of 92.300 points, ranking 21st out of a total of 92 athletes.

The Cypriot Olympic team has now seven members, after Pavlos Kontides (ILCA7/Sailing), Denis Tarantin (Kite/Sailing), Marilena Makri (ILCA6/Sailing), Andri Christoforou (Road Racing Cycling/Cycling), Marios Georgiou (Artistic gymnastics), Vera Tugolukova (Rhythmic Gymnastics) and Alexandros Tofalidis (Fencing), have qualified for the Olympics.
