Cypriot Paralympic swimmer champion Karolina Pelendritou was chosen by the French Olympic and Paralympic organisers for ‘Paris 2024’ to represent Cyprus during the first day of the Olympic Torch Relay in France.

According to a press release, the first day of the Olympic Torch Relay in France coincided with Europe Day, on May 9, and the French organisers invited to Marseille a representative from each member state of the European Union as well as Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of Europe.

“It was one of the most important and touching moments of my 22-year career. It was a great honour for me to represent Cyprus, the people of Cyprus, at the events that took place in Marseille on 8-9 of May for the arrival of the Olympic Flame and Europe Day,” Pelendritou said in a statement.

The press release notes that it was the first time that the torch of the relay included the logo of the Paralympic Games as the French have united the logos of the Olympic and Paralympic Games presenting a common logo for the first time in history.
