On 13th May 2024, Catherine West MP hosted the 150th anniversary of Alexandra Park and Palace in the Houses of Parliament. This event was a chance to celebrate the “People’s Palace” and reflect on the benefits it continues to provide to London and visitors across the world. In the last six months, staff at Alexandra Palace have put on over 250 events, attracting over five million visitors. This includes comedy acts, theatre performances, ice skating, volunteer days, firework displays and welcoming 20,000 local people to the free Birthday Party.
Alexandra Park and Palace in north London is one of the nation’s most iconic cultural charities. In Parliament, Catherine West MP invited the Alexandra Park and Palace staff, Haringey Council representatives, Young Creatives Network members, sponsors, and members of the community to one of the final events to mark the milestone.
Speeches were given by Catherine West, Emma Dagnes, CEO Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust, and Councillor Emine Ibrahim, Chair of Alexandra Park and Place Charitable Trust.
Catherine West welcomed the group with a speech: “Alexandra Park and Palace is such an important and historical monument for the people of North London. It remains a cultural, musical and educational hub and its green space has provided ample activity and enjoyment for the local community in which it strives to serve. We are here today to celebrate 150 years of the venue and I am hopeful that it will continue to grow and adapt to the needs of our community. As the local MP, I will continue to support Alexandra Park and Palace and that importance access to cultural spaces that everyone deserves.”
