Parikiaki extend their condolences
So sad to hear of the passing of an exceptional Mathematician and Physicist, Dr Andreas Georgiou. I was fortunate enough to have been one of Andreas’ students attending his lectures in Applied Mathematics at University. His passion for Mathematics was evident in the energy and enthusiasm with which he delivered his lectures and engaged his students. Our paths were to cross again a few years later when I decided to undertake a PhD and our offices were located in the same research centre building of the University. During this time, Andreas provided valuable advice and guidance and was also kind enough to proof-read my dissertation. Andreas was an excellent researcher and had published many papers in respected peer-reviewed journals. Apart from his professional achievements, Andreas was a wonderful human being who captivated people with his intelligence and humour and I’m forever grateful for his teachings, advice and guidance over the years. The above photo of Andreas is exactly as his students and colleagues would remember him – standing in front of a whiteboard full of complicated Mathematics with several pages of notes in hand doing what he enjoyed doing most and passing his knowledge on to future generations.

I was a very good friend and colleague. We were both at The Hatfield Polytechnic together as teachers of mathematics. I remember him fondly. My wife and I both knew him well. He was also the Godfather of our daughter, Anna. I found him to be such a good person. My wife and I are both sad to hear of his passing.

I would like to thank you all for your wonderful messages and for sharing your special memories of my uncle. He was a truly amazing person, not only with his dedication to his research but also the time he spent helping so many students and always supporting his family. He taught me mathematics and i had the best teacher in the world and inspired me to always do my very best with anything in life.
His passing is a big loss to our family and we are all very privileged he was part of our family and will always be remembered.
