Sotiris Kalou

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather Sotiris Kalou. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep aged 81, on Sunday 6th June 2021. He leaves behind his much-loved wife Eleni, daughter Anastasia and four grandchildren, George, Elizabeth, Sotiri and Nicholas and four great grandchildren. Sotiris was born and raised in Cyprus in the village of Akanthou. In 1960, aged 21 he came to London where he met his beloved wife Eleni and were married the following year. This year they would have celebrated 60 years of happy marriage. They had two children Anastasia and George. He worked as a shoemaker, but due to ill health he had to retire early. He was always happiest when surrounded by and caring for his family. He would bring them all together as often as possible by cooking his famous souvla. He loved spending time in his garden which was his sanctuary. He was a humble man and never had a bad word to say, he only wished the best for everybody. He will be fondly remembered for his cheeky smile which many people commented on, including the staff at the Whittington Hospital where he became well known.

The funeral will take place on Friday 2nd July 2021, at St Katherine’s Church, Friern Barnet Lane, London N20 0NL, at 1.00pm. Space in the Church is limited, but we welcome anyone wanting to pay their respects to attend, but please observe COVID-19 restrictions. Due to the current guidelines, there will not be a wake however, you are welcome to pay your respects at New Southgate Cemetery, Brunswick Park Road, London N11 1JJ, at 2.30pm, where the burial will take place. Με μεγάλη θλίψη ανακοινώνουμε τον θάνατο του αγαπημένου μας συζύγου, πατέρα, αδελφού και παππού Σωτήρη Κάλου. Απεβίωσε στο σπίτι του την Κυριακή 6 Ιουνίου 2021, σε ηλικία 81 ετών. Αφήνει πίσω την αγαπημένη του σύζυγο Ελένη, την κόρη του Αναστασία και 4 εγγόνια, Γιώργο, Ελισάβετ, Σωτήρη, Νικόλα, 4 δισέγγονα. Ο Σωτήρης γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην Κύπρο στο χωριό Ακάνθου. Το 1960, σε ηλικία 21 ετών ήρθε στο Λονδίνο, όπου συνάντησε την αγαπημένη του σύζυγο Ελένη και παντρεύτηκαν έναν χρόνο μετά. Φέτος θα γιόρταζαν 60 χρόνια ευτυχισμένου γάμου. Είχαν 2 παιδιά την Αναστασία και τον Γιώργο. Εργάστηκε ως τσαγκάρης, αλλά λόγω προβλημάτων υγείας είχε συνταξιοδοτηθεί νωρίς. Ήταν πάντοτε ευτυχισμένος όταν περιβαλλόταν από την οικογένεια του και όταν τη φρόντιζε. Τους συγκέντρωνε όλους όσο το δυνατόν συχνότερα, μαγειρεύοντας την περίφημη σούβλα του. Του άρεσε να περνάει τον χρόνο του στο κήπο, ήταν η απόλαυσή του. Ήταν ένας ταπεινός άνθρωπος και ποτέ δεν είχε κακή λέξη να πει για κανένα, ευχόταν μόνο το καλύτερο για όλους. Θα τον θυμούνται όλοι πολύ καλά για το ωραίο του χαμόγελο το οποίο ήταν εμφανές σε όλους, ακόμα και σε όσους τον πρόσεχαν στο νοσοκομείο Whittington όπου έγινε γνωστός.

Η κηδεία θα τελεστεί την Παρασκευή 2 Ιουλίου 2021 στην εκκλησία της Αγίας Αικατερίνης, Friern Barnet Lane, Λονδίνο N20 0NL, στη 1.00 μ.μ. Ο χώρος στην Εκκλησία είναι περιορισμένος, αλλά καλωσορίζουμε όσους θέλουν να τον τιμήσουν με την παρουσία τους, τηρώντας πάντοτε τους περιορισμούς για τον COVID-19. Λόγω της κατάστασης, παρηγοριά δεν θα γίνει, ωστόσο, μπορείτε να αποτίνετε τα σέβη σας στο κοιμητήριο του New Southgate, Brunswick Park Road, London N11 1JJ, στις 2.30 μ.μ., όπου θα γίνει η ταφή.
