The Meteorological Service has issued a thunderstorm warning for mountainous and inland areas in Cyprus.

The thunderstorm warning comes on Pentecost (Kataklysmos) holiday and will remain in effect from midday until 1800 local time.

It said isolated thunderstorms which may be accompanied by hail are likely to affect mainly mountainous and inland areas. Shower rates may exceed 35mm per hour, it added.

The warning urges the public to take extra care in exposed areas like mountains, forests and open terrain, adding that disruption to outdoor activities is possible.
