Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yiannis Karousos, received on Friday a Medieval tombstone, which was found in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus and was returned to the government-controlled areas through the “Walk of Truth” organisation. 

The handing over of the 14th century Medieval tombstone took place at the Limassol Archaeological Museum.

The Minister thanked the founder and president of the organisation, Tassoula Hatzittofi, and said that the tombstone was one of many antiquities that have been missing since 1974 and will now be received by the Department of Antiquities to be exhibited at the Medieval Museum, located in the medieval castle of Limassol.

He called upon everyone to continue their efforts for the location and return of Cyprus’ antiquities, especially those that have been missing since 1974.
 
According to an official press release by PIO, the tombstone, is published in the publication of the Department of Antiquities “Lacrimae Cypriae: Les larmes de Chypre”, Vol. I.  The author is Imhaus Brunehilde (2004).
 
It says that this tombstone has an engraved inscription which, among others, mentions the name Joseph de Sur, with origins from Tyre of Lebanon, who died November 1st, 1332 AD.
