A Cypriot business in Melbourne’s north-west is combating the latest Covid lockdown with generosity and humour.

It’s been a week since the Hillside food truck operators started giving free feeds to families who are in need and the response from the community has been overwhelming.

“We’re struggling ourselves but I thought I’d help people the way I can,” says Michael from Taste of Cyprus.

He’s been posting the call-out to the business’ facebook page and the page of a community group in the area.

The team asks that only locals take up the offer so they’re able to accommodate the demand and that orders are placed between 10am and 2pm so they can be spaced out.

“I don’t ask people any questions, I just rely on peoples’ honesty,” says the good Samaritan.

Meanwhile, giggles are also part of the package with any customer handed a free toilet roll with every pair of souvlakis.

“Everybody loved it [the gesture]. I had 50 comments the first time I posted. And he toilet roll offer… it makes people laugh.”
