Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou announced on Saturday that Cyprus is close to reaching 100,000 vaccinations and said that the vaccination program is being accelerated. President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, welcomed the news, saying that as the shield of protection grows bigger, so does hope for people to return to their daily routine with safety.
 
In a message on Twitter, President Anastasiades thanked the scientists and the people implementing the “largest inoculation program in the history of the Republic of Cyprus.”
 
In a written statement, Ioannou said from his part that vaccines are saving hundreds of lives and prevent thousands from contracting the disease.
 
He also thanks people who show great willingness to get vaccinated, as well as nurses for their tireless contribution.
 
“The vaccination program is being accelerating every week. There is a possibility that we will exceed our current schedule” the Minister added.
 
“I understand the fatigue. But until the vast majority of people gets vaccinated, we must adhere to protection measures. It is the only way to save lives and maintain the resilience of the Health System” Ioannou noted.

According to the Ministry of Health, 98,000 vaccinations were administered by Friday afternoon and vaccinations continue on Saturday.
 
Vaccinations of people who are not beneficiaries of the General Healthcare Scheme or Gesy in Cyprus, but are entitled to het the jab have also started. Vaccinations of healthcare professionals also continue.
