Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Saturday that 298 new COVID-19 were confirmed, with the total number of confirmed cases now standing at 36,575. A total of 45,369 PCR tests and antigen rapid tests were carried out. The positivity rate is 0.66%

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded and therefore the total number of patients who have died remains 232, 155 men (67%) and 77 women (33%). Their median age is 79 years.

A total of 126 COVID-19 patients are currently treated in hospital. The situation of 25 of them is critical. Eleven out of these 25 patients are intubated, three are being treated in an Intensive Treatement Unit but are not intubated and 11 in an Increased Care Unit.

Out of the 45,369 tests carried out on Saturday, 3,262 were done using the PCR method and 42,107 using antigen rapid tests.

The 298 new COVID-19 cases were traced as follows: 44 out of 467 samples taken while tracing  the close contacts of already known cases, 9 cases out of 715 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, 24 out of 1,576 samples taken at the private initiative, 15 cases out of 252 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 5 cases out of 323 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and 201 cases out of 41,784 samples tested using antigen rapid tests in the framework of the Health Ministry`s programme.
