Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou will consult with the scientific advisory committee on the pandemic in light of a rise in COVID cases in Cyprus. On Monday the authorities announced 302 new cases, with the positivity rate standing at 0,79%. Limassol district has a high number of cases and a few clusters at schools which leads to great concern.
The meeting with the committee is set for 1500 local time. Earlier today the Minister met with the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) and he was briefed on the strategy drafted in case there is a 3rd wave of the pandemic.
In a brief statement following the meeting, the Minister said that he wants to hear the views of the scientific committee as regards the rise in cases, to assess the measures in place and possible steps to be taken.
Yesterday the Minister said that Cyprus must continue to show good epidemiological figures in order to be able to enter into more relaxations of COVID measures with determination, gradually and with the utmost safety.
Cyprus entered yesterday a new phase of relaxations with the return of 1st and 2nd graders of high school back to schools, the resumption of flights and the opening of private institutes, dance and music schools, galleries and gyms with specific protocols.
