Cyprus health authorities announced one death due to Covid-19 and 139 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the island’s tally since the outbreak of the pandemic to 203 deaths and 31,263 cases.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, on Wednesday a total of 28,659 tests were carried out with the daily positive rate at 0.49%.
Furthermore, total hospitalisations rose to 126, of whom 39 in a serious condition. Of the patients treated in state hospitals, 23 are intubated with 4 patients treated in ICU non connected to a ventilator, while 12 patients receive treatment in Advanced Care Units.
According to the Ministry, the new fatality concerns a 79-year old woman with underlying diseases who passed away while being treated in the Famagusta General Hospital.
The total number of deaths due to Covid amounts to 203, 136 men and 67 women, with a median age of 79 years.
According to the Ministry, of the 28,659 tests carried throughout Cyprus, 1,716 were PCR tests and 26,943 were rapid antigen tests.
Of the PCR tests, 43 new cases were diagnosed after 238 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 18 positive cases were discovered after 779 tests done privately, 11 new cases were detected after 325 samples taken by General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, whereas 2 new cases were discovered after 238 tests made in the contexts of GP referrals. Furthermore, 65 cases were diagnosed after 26,943 tests made in the context of the rapid antigen testing.
