It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phedias Soteriou MBE, who passed away peacefully on 30th December 2020.
surrounded by family and love. He was an integral part of the UK Thalassaemia Society and the London Cypriot Community.
Phaedias Soteriou was born in Morphou and attended the American Academy in Larnaca and the Lanition Gymnasium. When he first came to England he was a car mechanic and then he became the first known Cypriot police officer and served the Police force for 31 years, he worked in Leyton , the Special Patrol Group and CID.
Phaedias Soteriou received an MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list in June 1999 for services to the Police and Cypriot Community.
He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
A post-pandemic memorial service will take place when possible.
Donations may be made in his memory to North London Hospice who supported Phedias and his family in his final days.
