DOB – 28th June 1953
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Artemis ‘Arty’ Achilleos who passed on the 10th January 2021 from Covid-19 aged 67.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & uncle. He leaves behind his wife Shirley, sons Alexis & Nicolas, daughter in-laws Christina & Andrea and grandchildren Luke, Theo & Olivia.
Arty was well known in our community, a committee member at Potters Bar Greek school as well as a devoted member of the 12 Apostles Greek Orthodox Church for many years.
Artemis was shoemaker and had the trade name Baboucha and a workshop and retail shop in Barnet. He was commissioned in 1986 to make the bridesmaids shoes for the Royal wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and when Sophie Rhys Jones married prince Edward in London in 1999 Arty played fairy godfather to the bride by saving the day in a last minute dash to match Sophie’s shoes to her £5,000 wedding dress. He,was given the emergency task of covering the £250 shoes by Royal dress designer Samantha Shaw after she discovered her ivory/Pale creation had been match with a pair in a Peach Colour.
His list of clients has included Actresses Ava Gardner, Cyd Charisse and the exiled Queen of Greece, Queen Anne-Marie.
The funeral will take place on 10th February at 12 Apostles Church @ 12:30pm. Due to government restrictions the service and burial at Cheshunt cemetery are limited to 30 immediate family members.
The church will be streaming the service live via their website for those that wish to watch the service virtually and pay their respects.
