New strain of coronavirus diagnosed among the Cypriot population

Cyprus health Authorities announced the new strain of coronavirus has been diagnosed among 24 samples examined by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.

The Institute said it completed the examination of 24 samples of infected persons in the last week of December from all districts of the island, confirming the new strain in one of the samples taken.

A Health Ministry spokesperson said that the spread of the new coronavirus spread cannot be determined due to the small sample.

The new coronavirus strain was first identified in the UK and is considered as a factor for the increased daily infections in spite of strict lock down measures in the country.
