Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez were among a star-studded line-up who performed as part of Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration on Wednesday.
Gaga sang the national anthem as the 46th US president and vice president-elect Kamala Harris were sworn into office in Washington DC, while Lopez gave a separate musical performance.
“They represent one clear picture of the grand diversity of our great nation,” the president’s team said in a statement, mentioning Gaga’s support of LGBTI rights and health issues, and Lopez’s work raising awareness about the disproportionate impact of coronavirus on Latinos.
Later in the day, Hollywood actor Tom Hanks hosted a concert celebrating Biden’s inauguration alongside Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria.
Musicians and performers included Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, John Legend, the Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Ant Clemens and country singer Garth Brooks who performed in a 90-minute TV special.
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda recited a classical work at the event.
