Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides had a telephone conversation, on Thursday, December 31, during which they discussed the two countries’ coordination on the Cyprus problem and recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Greek Foreign Minister wrote in a tweet that during his phone conversation with Minister Christodoulides they discussed about Greece’s and Cyprus’ constant and close coordination as regards the Cyprus issue and the recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
Ankara sent on several occasions vessels to Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, to conduct unauthorised drilling activities of hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean, in areas licensed by Cyprus to international energy companies.
The European Council reaffirmed its full solidarity with Cyprus regarding the respect of its sovereignty and sovereign rights in accordance with international law.
