Cyprus reports one more death, 466 new coronavirus cases on Friday

Cyprus reported one death from Covid-19 and 466 coronavirus cases out of a total of 12,831 tests (PCR and rapid) carried out on Friday, while 198 patients are treated in hospital, 52 of them in serious condition.

In a press release the Ministry of Health said that the total number of deaths has reached 141, while the total number of cases 26,674.

The person who passed away is a man 93 years of age with underlying health conditions who died in Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as the reference hospital for Covid-19. Out of the total 141 deaths, 95 or 67% were men and 46 or 33% were women. The median age of the deceased is 80.

In total, 198 Covid-19 patients are undergoing treatment in state hospitals, 52 of whom in a serious condition. Thirty of them are intubated, 4 are being treated in an ICU but are not intubated and 18 are being treated in an increased care unit.

Out of 12,831 laboratory tests carried out today, 3,451 by PCR and 9,380 antigen rapid tests, 466 new cases were confirmed.

In particular, 171 people tested positive out of 875 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 4 people tested positive out of 356 samples taken from passengers at Larnaca and Pafos airports, 44 people tested positive out of 1,532 samples tested by private initiative, 23 cases were found out of 489 tests carried out by the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals, one person tested positive out of samples taken following GP referrals or public health clinics, cases were detected out of 147 samples taken from people 7 days following their arrival from the UK while in quarantine, 5 people tested positive out of 15 samples taken in the context of screening carried out by the Cyprus Basketball and Volleyball Federations and 216 people tested positive out of 9,380 samples taken by way of antigen rapid tests.
