Cyprus health authorities announced two more deaths from Covid1-19 and 109 new cases, with daily positive rate remaining below 1% for the second consecutive day.

The two new fatalities and new cases announced on Tuesday bring Cyprus’ total tally of deaths and total coronavirus cases to 190 and 30,252 respectively, the Ministry of Health said in a press release. A total of 10,992 tests have been carried out.

Furthermore, the number of persons receiving treatment in state hospitals declined to 160, continuing its downward trend. As of January 10, Cyprus entered a three-week lockdown in bid to contain the rising numbers of hospitalisations and daily infections. The Council of Ministers convenes tomorrow to approve a road map for lifting of restrictive measures.

According to the Ministry, the deceased are a 69-year old male and a 93-year old female, both with underlying conditions, who were receiving treatment in state hospitals. Of the total number of fatalities, 128 or 67% are male and 62 or 33% female with an average age of 80 years.

Total hospitalisations declined to 160 persons of whom 53 in serious conditions. Of the 53 persons in critical condition, 32 are intubated, three in Intensive Care Unit and 18 in Advanced Care Unit.

Today a total of 10,992 tests were made throughout Cyprus, of which 1,725 were PCR tests and 9,267 rapid antigen tests and 109 new cases were diagnosed, resulting a positivity rate of 0.99%.

According to the Ministry, 22 new cases were diagnosed after 194 samples taken as part of contact tracing, 8 cases after 731 tests made privately, 5 from 262 tests carried out at the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, 1 new case from 272 samples taken at the Airports and 1 after 266 tests carried out after GP referrals. Furthermore, 72 new cases were diagnosed following 9,267 rapid antigen tests, the Ministry added.

From the rapid tests carried out, 17 were diagnosed in Nicosia following 2,687 tests resulting in positivity rate of 0,63%, 25 in Limassol after 1,327 tests with a positivity rate of 1.88%,  5 new cases in Larnaca after 921 and a positivity rate of 0.54%.

A total of 334 test were conducted in Pafos with 4 new cases diagnosed and a positivity rate of 1.20% while 4 new cases were diagnosed in Famagusta after 190 tests with the positivity rate amounting to 2.11%.
