Cyprus Football: Apoel are struggling in fourth from bottom position

The Cypriot football league kicked off for year 2021 after the holiday break with some astonishing results with Apoel losing to the bottom team Enosis Neon Paralimniou 2-0 at their home ground in Nicosia.Its the seventh time they have lost this season with four draws and four wins.Apoel are now in eleventh place and fourth from bottom They are 5 points off bottom-placed Enosis.
Paralimni took the lead in the 38th minute through a Dening penalty and increased their lead in the 77th minute through Theodorou. Apoel player Merkis was sent off in the 79th minute.This was Paralimni’s third win of the season.


Apollon v Anorthosis

At the other end of the table Apollon are back at the top of the table with 36 points after their win over now fourth-placed Anorthosis. But it was Anorthosis who got off to a good start leading 2-0 in the first half taking the lead in the ninth minute through Kvilitaia and increasing their lead in the 29th minute through Husbauer.
The second half Apollon came out a different team with more prowess and scored seven minutes into the half through Diguiny and Matei equalised for Apollon in the 60th minute, Apollon were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute and Diguiny stepped up to score and give Apollon a vital win.

Omonia players celebrating win over AEK

Third placed Omonia continued their good winning form beating AEK 3-0 in Larnaca and are four points behind the league leaders Apollon with all three goals coming in the second half Papoulis with a 16th minute penalty and a brace from Asante in the 27th and 41st minute.

Ethnikos Achna beat Pafos 2-1 it was 1-1 at half time and Elias scoring in the 68th minute to give Ethnikos Achna the win. The other Ethnikos goal was scored by Papageorgiou and for Pafos a goal from Torres.

A great advertisement for Cypriot football loads of goals at the Nea Salamina v Doxa game 4-3 in Nea Salaminas favour. Doxa’s goals came from Kikas 2 and Economides. Nea Salaminas goals were scored by De Oliveira 2 and Wagner 2.

AEL beat Karmiotissa
Second placed AEL beat Karmiotissa 1-0 with their goal coming in the 8th minute through Riera in the other game Olympiakos drew 0-0 with Ermis Aradippou.
