The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday four deaths from Covid-19 and 573 new cases through a total of 10.201 tests, both PCR and rapid tests.
The death toll is now 138. The total cases of corona virus recorded in Cyprus since the outbreak of the pandemic rose to 25.781.
The deaths concern four men. Three of them had underlying conditions. Two of them were 76 years-old, one was 79 years-old and one 69 years old with no underlying conditions. Three of them were inpatients at state hospitals and one was a resident at a care home.
The total of deaths increased to 138 persons, of whom 93 (67%) are men and 45 (33%) women.
The Ministry also announced that 187 patients are being treated in hospitals of whom 49 in serious condition. Of the 49, 25 are intubated, six are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit and 18 in the Increased Care Unit.
The average age of the persons who have died due to Covid – 19, is 80 years.
Furthermore, the Ministry announced that of the 10,201 labs tests done, 3.057 were PCR and 7.144 rapid tests.
The 178 positive results were found after 883 samples taken in the framework of contact tracing. One case was detected out of 370 samples taken from passengers at the airports. Another 80 cases were found from 1.328 samples taken on private initiative. Five cases were detected out of 208 samples taken on GP referrals and special groups testing. Also, 18 positive cases were found from 248 hospital lab testing and 6 from 21 tests done among members of the basketball and volleyball federations.
It is noted that 285 positive cases were found from 7.144 antigen rapid tests.
Antigen rapid tests were carried out island-wide and the highest positive rate, 6.21%, was recorded in Limassol.
