The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday the death of two more people due to COVID19, bringing the total number of dead since the outbreak of the pandemic to 59. A total of 119 patients with COVID-19 are receiving treatment, 16 of whom are in a critical condition.
The Ministry futher notes that 9,744 tests were carried out on Saturday, 4,007 with the PCR method and 5,737 antigen rapid tests, and 369 new cases of coronavirus were detected and verified with the PCR method. The total number of cases rises to 12,181. Today`s cases, include 116 verifications of positive results of rapid tests done in previous days.
The two people who died due to COVID19 today are a man of 81 years of age, with underlying conditions who was being treated in the Famagusta General Hospital and a 82 year old woman with underlying conditions who was receiving treatment in the Limassol General Hospital.
The total number of deaths rises to 59, 38 men (64%), and 21 women (36%) with median age 76.
The 369 PCR confirmed cases were found after 4,007 laboratory tests as follows: 100 people tested positive out of 642 samples taken through contact tracing, 4 out of 549 samples taken at airports, 131 out of 1,707 tests done upon private initiative, 15 out of 299 samples taken at the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 out of 29 samples taken at care homes, 2 out of 240 tests done after GP referrals and 116 out of 123 samples taken with the antigen rapid tests and were verified with the PCR method.
In addition, no cases were found out of 414 tests done at schools and 4 samples taken at refugee camps.
Moreover, out of the 5,737 antigen rapid tests, 181 positive results were found that need futher verification with the PCR method.
