Two more COVID-19 patients have died in Cyprus and 339 new cases have been confirmed, Cyprus authorities announced on Tuesday.
The number of people who lost their lives due to COVID-19 is now 84, and the total number of confirmed cases stands at 15,789. Moreover, there are currently 122 COVID-19 patients who are treated in a hospital, with the situation of 22 of them being critical. Twelve on them are on ventilators, one is treated in an Intensive Care Unit but is not on a ventilator and nine are treated in an Increased Care Unit.
According to the Health Ministry press release, the patients who died are a 91-year old man who had other health problems as well and was treated at the COVID-19 Reference Hospital in Famagusta and a 74-year old man who also had underlying health issues and was treated at the COVID-19 Reference Hospital after being transferred from a care home.
Fifty-four of the patients who died are men (64%) and 30 are women (36%). The average age of the deceased is 78 years old.
A total of 11.733 tests were carried out on Tuesday, out of which 4,989 were PCR tests and 6,744 rapid tests.
The new confirmed 339 cases were traced and confirmed through PCR tests. Ninety-eight of them concern people who already had rapid tests with a positive result.
Eighty-six cases were confirmed out of 709 samples tested in the framework of the process of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases. One hundred seventeen cases were found out of 2,396 samples tested at the private initiative and 34 out of 352 samples taken by the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals.
Two cases were confirmed out of 250 tests on samples taken after referrals by Personal Doctors and testing of special groups through public health centres and other two out of 201 samples taken from Greek soldiers serving in Cyprus.
Moreover 98 cases were confirmed out of 103 samples of individuals who already tested positive for COVID-19 through rapid tests carried out during the previous days.
No cases were traced out of 934 tests of samples of passengers and people who have been repatriated and 44 tests on samples taken from basketball and handball teams.
