A series of online events on climate change for young Cypriots abroad have been launched, organised by Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou and Environment Commissioner Klelia Vassiliou in cooperation with the Young Cypriots Abroad Organisation (NEPOMAK).
The seminars include six thematic discussions which will aim to show-case Cyprus’ environmental treasures, environmental challenges and to propose solutions, thus involving young Cypriots abroad with what is going on in their country, an official press release says.
Addressing the first online event entitled “Blue Growth and Climate Change”, Fotiou stressed that the threat of climate change and what may happen in the coming decades directly concern young people today, adding that “Cyprus has undertaken an important initiative to combat the threat of climate change.” With the cooperation of relevant government agencies actions were promoted to enhance relations with neighbouring states in the effort to combat climate change and its impact.
Fotiou also referred to the Paris Agreement and the fact that Cyprus is a signatory, recalling that President Anastasiades has stressed that the international community has to remain committed to implementing the Paris Agreement because it is only through collective action at an international level that we can deal with the undesirable consequences of climate change.
