European Council President Charles Michel held this afternoon a phone call with the President of Turkey R.T.Erdogan. The call was planned at Turkey’s request, according to a senior EU officiall who briefed the Press that President Michel outlined to Erdogan the EUCO conclusions on the Eastern Mediterranean.
In Particular the Presiden of the European Council stressed “the need for deescalation to be sustained and deepened, exploratory talks with Greece to be resumed and Cyprus settlement talks under the auspices of the UN to restart as early as possible”. Both Presidents agreed to keep the channel of communication open.
The EU official noted, explainig the term “deescalation to be sustained and deepened”, that “over the past months we have seen hostile comments and action, these are clearly mentioned in last week’s conclusions so deescalation is needed”.
