The first sixteen days of December have seen the highest toll in deaths so far in Cyprus from Covid-19. In particular, according to an data released by the Ministry of Health, 36 people out of 85 who have lost their lives due to Covid-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic, died in December.
Another six people who had contracted the coronavirus also died in December but their cause of death was not attributed to Covid-19.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, Limassol is the district hit hardest with 36 deaths attributed to the disease, followed by Nicosia (24), Larnaca (12), Pafos (9) and Famagusta (4).
According to the official data from March until December 16, a total of 110 deaths of people who were diagnosed with Covid-19 have been recorded, 65% or 72 were men and 35% or 38 were women.
Out of the 110 deaths, the cause of death of 85 or 77% was Covid-19. Out of the 85 people with Covid-19 as cause of death 55 or 65% were men and 35% or 30 were women.
The age group of 80 -84 accounts for 28% or 31 of the deaths. Almost one in five deaths (18) was in the 75 -79 age group.
In December a total of 42 deaths or 38% has been reported. The number of deaths in December is up by 20% from the number of deaths in November (35 or 32%).
The highest number of deaths (19) of people who contracted Covid-19 was recorded during the 49th week of this year since the outbreak of the pandemic until today, which is 17% of the total number of deaths.
During this week (51st) 8 deaths of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 have been recorded, the final cause of death for 7 of them was Covid-19.
Thirty-two deaths out of 36 with Covid-19 as the cause of death in December, were permanent residents of Nicosia (17) and Limassol (15).
