Cyprus gets ready to receive first batch of COVID-19 vaccines, details for vaccinations to be announced on Tuesday
Cyprus is getting ready to receive the first batch of vaccines for COVID-19, since the government wants everything to be ready so that there will be no delay in going ahead with vaccinations. Details about the vaccination programme in Cyprus will be announced on Tuesday by Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou.
According to CNA information the availability of the vaccines will depend on the production rate of each company, and they will be transported and stored according to certain standards by the manufacturing company.
Pfizer vaccines are expected to be the first to arrive in Cyprus.
Their transport and storage have to be carried out under specific conditions and for this reason the Health Ministry has secured appropriate refrigerators, which are expected to arrive in Cyprus before Christmas.
There will be a big number of vaccination centres while the intention of the government is also to operate mobile vaccination units.
As an EU member state Cyprus is part of all four agreements signed by the EU for supplies of vaccines and has already submitted the quantities it wants to secure from each one, which are 600,000 from AstraZeneca, 200,000 from Johnson&Johnson and 200,000 from Pfizer/BioNTech.
Sanofi Pasteur&GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals has not yet asked from the states to place their orders.
