For the past month, NEPOMAK have been celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus through a social media campaign highlighting various aspects of the country. Launched on 1st October, Cypriot Independence Day, NEPOMAK’s campaign aims to celebrate the Republic of Cyprus online, and also educate young, diaspora Cypriots about their homeland. The posts cover:

We designed and launched an Instagram filter featuring the flag of the Republic of Cyprus. Thousands of selfies have been taken using the filter since 1st October.

Presidents of the Republic of Cyprus

Short profiles of the seven presidents of the country since independence, with a specific look at their contributions to the island’s growing national story.

Missing Persons

On Missing Persons of Cyprus Day (29th October) we posted information about the tragic missing persons issue, its consequences and the ongoing efforts to determine the fate of the missing.

Cities of Cyprus

We used stunning aerial videos of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaka, Pafos, Famagusta and Kyrenia to showcase the major cities of Cyprus. We also added a brief history of each city and outlined key landmarks.

Geography of Cyprus

Shared facts about the island itself, its geographic location, coastline, mountain ranges, flora, and fauna.

Cypriot Dialect

We collected words that are part of the Cypriot dialect to showcase one of the island’s most famous and noticeable features.

The posts are all available to view on NEPOMAK’s social media pages, @NEPOMAK. Take a look on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to learn more about our wonderful homeland and revisit our celebrations of 60 years of the Republic of Cyprus.

Independence Day is usually celebrated by the Cypriot diaspora at community events across the world but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic means that was not possible this year.
