Moscow urges the parties involved to show political will for an early resumption of Cyprus talks.

According to a message posted by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Twitter, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia will continue to closely monitor the situation around the resumption of Cyprus talks.

“Russia’s position remains consistent and unchanged. We urge the parties to show political will for an early resumption of talks” it is added.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
