The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday the death of a 74-year-old man due to COVID19. The man, who had underlying conditions was being treated at the Famagusta General Hospital. The Ministry also announced 198 new cases of coronavirus, out of 7,049 tests, bringing the total number of cases at 7,711. It also announced 48 positive antigen rapid tests that need to be verified with a PCR test.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic 41 people have died in Cyprus, 25 men and 16 women with 75 being the median age.
It is noted that Wednesday`s cases include 14 verifications of the virus with the PCR method following a positive result with the antigen rapid testing in previous days.
In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 57 patients with SARS-CoV-2, six of whom in the Increased Care Unit. In the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital ten patients are receiving treatment, while ten more are in the COVID-19 ward.
Wednesday`s cases were detected as follows: 64 people were tested positive out of 694 samples taken after contact tracing, 98 cases were found out of 2,847 tests carried out after private initiative, 15 people tested positive out of 475 sampes taken at the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 8 cases were found among 289 tests done after GP referrals, 9 other people were found positive out of 1,379 samples taken in the district of Limassol in the framework of controls of those employees who are allowed to commute to and from the districts of Limassol and Pafos and four tests came out positive among 528 samples taken at schools.
No positive cases were found out of 45 tests done in refugee camps, 207 tests done at airports, one test done in the framework of samples taken at football clubs, 114 tests carried out in the Kato Pyros Tillirias area, and 470 samples taken in the Pafos district among employees who are allowed to move from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos.
Meanwhile, the Ministry announced 48 positive results out of 3, 049 antigen rapid tests that are currently being carried out all over Cyprus.
In Limassol there were 1,031 tests and 20 positive results, in Pafos 758 tests and 3 positive, in Nicosia 611 tests and 12 positive, in Larnaka 347 tests and 7 positive and in Famagusta 302 tests and 6 positive.
The persons who had a positive result are under self-isolation until the verification of their result with the PCR method.
