Cyprus has recorded two more COVID19 deaths, bringing the total number of people who died since the outbreak of the pandemic to 43. The Ministry of Health also announced on Friday 274 new cases found after testing with the PCR method and additional 114 positive results from antigen rapid testing.
The Ministry of Health announced the death of a 74 year old man with underlying conditions who was being treated at the Famagusta General Hospital and of a 70 year-old-man with underlying conditions who was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital. Their final cause of death was COVID-19.
The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 rises to 43, of whom 27 are men (63%) and 16 women (37%), with 75 years being the median age.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic the total number of cases in Cyprus reaches 8,253.
At the Famagusta General Hospital 61 patients are being treated with SARS-CoV-2, six of whom in the Increased Care Unit. Moreover, in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital nine patients are receiving treatment, while 12 more are in the COVID19 ward. Seven other patients are being treated in a ward at the Limassol General Hospital.
In addition, the Ministry says that on Friday 12,077 coronavirus tests were carried out, 5,022 of which were done with the PCR method and 274 new cases were found as follows: From 659 samples taken after contact tracing 51 cases were detected, 65 other people were tested positive after 1,317 tests done upon private initiative, 21 cases were found out of 400 samples taken by the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 38 cases were detected out of126 samples taken after GP referrals, seven people tested positive after 980 tests done in Limassol district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, six cases were found after 394 tests taken in the Pafos district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, two other people tested positive after 525 tests done in Nicosia district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, 21 cases were detected after 132 tests done in care homes, 11 cases were found after 126 tests done at refugee camps, and one person was found positive after one test done at football clubs.
The Ministry says that 51 cases are people who had a positive result with the antigen rapid test in the previous days and the result was verified with the PCR method.
No cases were found after 31 tests done at schools, 225 samples taken at airports, and 106 tests carried out among residents of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias.
Of the 12,077 tests, 7,055 were carried out with the antigen rapid testing, out of which a total of 114 positive results were found.
