World number 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas reached his first-ever French Open semifinal on Wednesday with a straight-sets win over Russian Andrey Rublev at Roland Garros to set up a clash with world number one Novak Djokovic for a place in the summit clash.

The 5th seed Greek had lost in the 3rd round of US Open and called it “saddest and funniest at the same time”. In a 5-setter, Croatian Boria Coric saved six match points as he rallied from 5-1 down in the fourth set to stun Tsitsipas. The 22-year-old’s father, who is known for giving his instructions even during the match, was visibly upset on his son’s peroformace in the match.

But Tsitsipas has finally brought back moment of joys for his family. Stefanos Tsitsipas was elated after his quarter-final win at the Roland Garros and explained about his coaching set-up at the clay court tournament. Tsitsipas, who is into his career’s 2nd Grand Slam tournament now, said that his mother knows a lot about tennis and sometimes it gets difficult for him when she gives him ‘unfiltered advises’.

The 6’4” added that there are moments when he has to make it clear that the suggestions should come through his coach and father Apostolos Tsitsipas. Notably, Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou also guides Stefanos Tsitsipas.

“My mom, she knows a lot about tennis. Sometimes it can be a bit complicated when she wants to give her own opinion or advice direct to me, then have my dad tell me something else.

“We’ve sat down and we said, ‘Guys, that’s my coach. Whatever opinions or whatever thoughts you have, has to be filtered through Apostolos, my father’. It can get quite hectic.

“Obviously the presence of Patrick, we are a strong, united team. My mom is also a small part of it. She brings a lot to the team, a lot of energy, a lot of good vibes. She is lovely,” Tsistsipas told reporters.

Further, Tsitsipas asserted that he has wanted to win a Grand Slam title since young age and believes that he is chasing somethung spectacular.

“I’m expecting since a young age to potentially triumph at these Grand Slams. I’m happy that I’m able to be in a position where I am today. Yeah, it’s very, very satisfying,” he said.

“I think I can learn from the previous one. I’m chasing something spectacular.”
