George Antoniou Trimikliniotis
Husband, father, grand-father, son, brother and uncle
George Trimikliniotis was born in Pera Pedi, Cyprus and was one of 7 siblings. He travelled all over the island in his twenties whilst working for the agricultural department. He flew to Africa in the 1950s, crossing the equator by plane which was something only done by so few at the time that they gave travellers a certificate.
George worked in Tanzania and Kenya and other parts of East Africa before travelling to the UK. He settled in North West London and worked on British Rail while putting himself through night school studying to become a structural engineer.
He completed his studies and got a job at the now disbanded Greater London Council (GLC).
George was committed to the Greek Cypriot community. He was a founder of the (non-church-related) Greek schools in London and helped found and run his local school in Brent in the 1980s. He also founded and ran a Greek youth Centre and then a Greek community Centre, both in Brent.
George leaves behind his wife, 3 children, 3 grand-children a number of nephews and nieces and 2 siblings.
He is much loved and will be missed.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday 11th August at 10.45am at The Holy Cross and St Michael Greek Orthodox Cathedral, The Riding, Golders Green, NW11 8HL
