London born 30 year old UK Cypriot Dimitri Yiakoumi is the new Assistant manager of Division two club Digenis Akritas Morphou in Cyprus he will be working under manager Costas Loizou who did the Division 3 cup and league double two years ago with Digenis and was before at Paralimni and Ayia Napa.
UEFA licenced Dimitri has been heavily involved in Football as a coach since the age of 16 and his coaching career began at Omonia Youth under Kyri Georgiou’.His experience as a Football coach covers both Men and Women and all ages working in the UK for Football clubs Queens Park Rangers, Barnet and Haringey Borough. Working in the USA in Massachusetts and New Jersey for GPS / Bayern Munich F.C. and now in Cyprus from Apoel to Digenis Akritas Morphou.
Dimitris parents are London born and his Grand parents from Vasili/Leonarisso, Komi Kebir and Ayios Athanasis, Limassol.
Digenis Akritas Morphou was the first Cypriot team to play in the UEFA Cup/Europa League in 1971 after finishing second in the first division and were defeated in the first round by AC Milan.
The club had a great following and was ranked within the strongest clubs in Cyprus before the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and occupation of the city of Morphou in 1974. They have a UK Cypriot Chairman Chris Sofroniou who is doing a great job in getting them back in the limelight.
Their home ground is the Makarios Stadium in Nicosia, and will be playing in the second division this season which will include clubs like Ayia Napa, Alki Oroklini, Anagennisi Deryneia, Aris Limassol, ASIL Lysi’ Ermis Aradippou, Karmiotissa, Othellos Athienou and Omonia Aradippou
