Despite the very good epidemiological image of Cyprus, which is the result of the sacrifices and discipline of society as a whole, there cannot be complacency, and any relaxing of measures must be slow and targeted so that phenomena in other countries from the sudden lifting of measures do not appear in Cyprus, the Ministry of Health has said.
In a press release after recent remarks by the head of the World Health Organisation (WHO), who warned that caution was needed regarding the danger of a pandemic resurgence, and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) recommendations, the Ministry of Health reiterates that citizens must still be careful in order to prevent a new outburst of the virus as is already the case in countries such as Israel, Spain and Germany, where local lockdowns have been imposed.
The Ministry of Health says that the concerns and reactions of various sectors of the economy are understandable, however WHO and ECDC have both referred to the risks from events such as concerts, festivals, and other gatherings with a large number of guests.
It says that Cyprus is observing the recommendations in an effort to maintain the good epidemiological image of Cyprus and prevent a setback.
