The Sunday Times Rich List is a list of the 1,000 wealthiest people or families in the United Kingdom, updated annually in April and published as a magazine supplement by British national Sunday newspaper The Sunday Times since 1989

The richest Cypriots are highlighted below.

Alki David and the Leventis FamilyTop is Alki David (pictured below) at position 59 valued £2.35 billion,he was born In Nigeria his parents from Cyprus and lives here in the UK and Los Angeles. David, who has appeared as heavies and the like in films or TV series in Britain, is searching for premises in Edinburgh to sell his SwissX medicinal cannabis oil.

Alki David is a member of the prominent Cypriot Leventis family who merged its worldwide bottling operation with Coca Cola to create London listed international drinks bottler Coca Cola HBC. We value the firm at £7.39 billion with the family holding a £1.7 Billion stake.

Lazari family

Second  richest are the Lazari family valued at £2.34 billion at position 61. The death of Chris Lazari three years ago robbed the London property market of one of its shrewdest operators . Chris Lazaris (Photo below) was from Dora in Cyprus,he started in fashion with Drendie Girl he later founded Lazari Investments, the booming Central and North London property operation with 2.8m sq ft of London commercial space plus 113 residential properties and 731 freeholds that is now run by his three children Len, Nicholas and Andrie.

Their flagship asset is Greater London House headquarters of fashion retailer Asos.

John Christodoulou

3rd  richest is 54 year old John Christodoulou at £1.8 billion and position 82 is Nicosia born John Christodoulou who came to the UK after the Cyprus Turkish invasion he bought his first property in 1984. John is the second largest freeholder in Canary Wharf with 2m sq ft which includes two five star hotels the Marriot and Four Seasons. He also has 2,000 residential and commercial freehold units in Central London other interests include Brazilian land , New York apartments  and  Manchester’s Hilton Tower and Liverpool’s Radisson Blu..

Fourth richest is Easy Jet founder Sir Stelios Haji –Ioannou (Photo below) is at number 85 with a value of £1.754 Billion. Few people have lost more from Brexit and Covid19 pandemic than Haji-Ioannou.

Stelios owns the European trade mark for the word easy another thousand trademarks with easy as a prefix.

Stelios and his family have a 34% stake in the budget airline of £863 million a fall of 864 million.

Stelios founded the easyjet budget airline.  Stelios Foundation in the past year has funded scholarships at the London School of Economics and elsewhere. He also has a charity food from the heart provides poverty relief in Greece and Cyprus.

He has also donated money to hospitals and staff in Cyprus, Greece and UK.

5th richest Former Dragon’s Den star 60 year old Theo Paphitis at £290 million at position 451 was born in Limassol, in Cyprus, in 1959 and came here aged six with his parents. He went to the local comprehensive in North London, where they failed to detect his dyslexia but did let him run the school tuck shop. His first job, when he left at 16, was helping make the tea at a Lloyd’s insurer.

He specializes turning round companies , his three main businesses which are stationers Ryman hardware chain Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue Lingerie.

Covid19 has hit sales at all its stores Ryman, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue.

. Theo Paphitis has also recruited reality tv star Megan Mckenna as the face of the lingerie company Boux Avenue.

Paphitis also turned round the La Senza lingerie chain and netted £100 million with its sale. He also has commercial properties all round the UK.

Stelios Stefanou

In position 858 with a fortune of £140 million Stelio Stefanou born in Egypt parents from Ktima and Peyia in Cyprus came to England and studied and remained here and built up the Accord maintenance which was sold for £180 million in year 2007. He runs his Hertfordshire based Stefanou foundation charity which promotes the well being of the very young and very old as well as scientific research. His assets include a £50 million Mayfair property owned by the Duke of Clarence before he became King William IV.

Tony Kleanthous is in position 915 at a value of £131 million. He owns and chairs Barnet FC where he spent 60 million on a stadium and facilities known as the Hive.

He is also a driving force behind womens football. Kkeanthous sold cars before moving into petrochemicals and mobile phones and now medical imaging and diagnostics via London’s TIC health.

Three of his companies have £131 million assets in total.

Mustafa and Fatima Kiamil

UK Cypriot Kiamil 64 this month runs food wholesaler JJ Food service. Turkish Cypriot Mustafa worked in the family restaurant business then opened his own burger bar in 1982 which he expanded into a chain but having struggled to find good  suppliers he launched his own warehouse operation for caterers. The husband and wife own the £130 million outfit  which made £13.5 million profit in 2018-19.

We also have John Fredriksen Shipping Billionaire  said to be the World’s biggest tanker operator in the list. A Norwegian by birth and holds a Cypriot Citizenship since Norway tightened the Tax regime. He made his fortune during the Iran – Iraq war in the 1980’s. He is the 20th  richest person in the UK worth £6.62 billion.

UK Cypriot Alex Solomou is in the young 50 rich list at position 31 with a value of 24 million. Alex owns and runs LADbible the video publishing operation.

 Greeks from Greece

We have Greeks Chris Rokos £800 million at position 174 a trying year for Rokos Capital management  and Trifon Natsis £200 million  at position 610  Who set up the Brevan Howard hedge Fund with two other traders . It is one of Europe’s top operations managing funds .

We have Aristotelis Mistakidis in position 208 valued at £696 Million works in commodities at Glencore. He is chairman of several of Glencores mining companies.

In position 233 at a value of £600 million London born Logothedis brothers George 45 and Constantine 40 run Libra group a Greek shipping ,property, aviation and energy empire. Constantine is based in London but George lives in New York hosted Barack Obama at their Manhattan townhouse .

Anthony Green from the Greek Zochonis Family who produce branded soaps is placed 261 and is valued at £536 million. His family retain a major stake in the Imperial Leather operation.
