A couple accused of being involved in a burglary were arrested on their Valentine’s Day date

A couple accused of being involved in a burglary were busted in a Valentine’s Day swoop – after leading police by the nose to the central London location they were planning to dine at.

The man and woman, in their 30s, were looking forward to a romantic lunch at a top flight restaurant in Bruton Street when detectives keen to question them about a couple of residential burglaries turned up and spoiled the celebration.

The man and woman were forced to swap ‘sweet nothings’ for handcuffs as they were led away outside the venue and into custody at a central London police station at 13:30 hours today, where they both currently remain.

Officers investigating the offences – which saw high-value clothes and handbags stolen from a residential address in Bruton Lane on Monday 3 February – identified the male suspect on CCTV and tracked back to see he had calmly visited the restaurant in the late morning just minutes before breaking into the female victim’s address.

They subsequently attended the venue and could not believe their luck when informed he had booked a table for two for lunch on Valentine’s Day – hence officers from the Westminster burglary squad lying in wait and following the couple as they strolled to their lunch appointment earlier today.

The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and the woman on suspicion of handling stolen goods after a designer handbag was seized from her.
