Precious late win for St Panteleimon
Precious late win for the Saints
Amersham Town 1 St Panteleimon 2
(Nico Campbell, Aristotelli Nasai)
The Saints were made to earn every one of the 3 away points on offer by a very determined and well organised Amersham Town.
A bright but cold afternoon produced a very tight game on a very lively surface. The Saints tried to play their swift high tempo passing game however Amersham Town worked tirelessly closing down the visitors and allowing the Saints very little time on thd ball.
The breakthrough came late into the first half, Massey with a terrific assist with a pin point cross that was met by the impressive Nico Campbell who thundered home his header into the top corner. Half time and The Saints ahead at the break.
Amersham came out very strongly at the start of the second half and following a good spell of pressure forced a corner on 55 minutes. The resulting corner kick saw the ball curl inwards and find the top corner giving Donald Manaj no chance making it 1-1.
The second half continued to see both teams work hard to create chances without either team taking control. The home side hit the cross bar, the Saints then did the same.
With 10 minutes remaining St Panteleimon started to look the more likely, they were the more composed in possession and started to exploit more gaps appearing in the Amersham defence. On 80 minutes the impressive Aristotelli made a terrific run into the oppositions box and was found beautifully with a fantastic cross by Ahmed Doukhi. Aristotelli, from an acute angle, fired home an unstoppable half volley. Full time and 3 hard fought and well earned points for The Saints.
