Greek Cypriot Youth of Melbourne – Apostolos Andreas (GCYM) hosted one of their signature cooking workshops this month.

Taking place on 5 October in Sunshine West, the event saw people of various ethnic backgrounds come together to learn to cook two popular Cypriot recipes: sheftalies (Cypriot style sausages) and tahinopites (tahini pastries).

The cooking demonstrations were led by President Lukas Theodorou along with local Greek Cypriot food blogger, Eleni Georges from My Family’s Food Diary. They ensured guests got into the spirit, whipping up their own batches of Cypriot cuisine, while having lots of fun.

To finish off, as is tradition in most Cypriot and Greek households, committee members and participants all sat down together to enjoy the delicious food they had prepared, and chatting about everything under the sun.

The youth group is committed to promoting and reinforcing the beauty of Cypriot culture, celebrating the impact it has had on Cyprus, and building strong ties with the wider Greek community.
