UK Cypriots Michalakis Michael and Kyriacos Koureas were honoured in Cyprus by the Cypriot Football ssociation for appearing in the Cyprus national side for two historical matches in 1968 and 1973 they were included and honoured with the other players who played for the national sides in those games before the International European qualifying game between Cyprus and Kazakhstan last week which ended in a 1-1 draw.

What was so special about those years was that in 1968 the national side won their first game in the European championships beating Switzerland in front of 10,000 fans 2-1. And in 1973 the Cyprus National team won their first game in the qualifying stages of the World Cup beating Northern Ireland 1-0.

Michalakis Michael is the Chairman of New Salamis FC in London and played in Cyprus for New Salamis and the Cyprus National side.

Kyriacos Koureas played in Cyprus for New Salamis and Olympiakos in Greece and the Cyprus national side. Kyriacos lived in the UK for several years and managed New Salamis and Anorthosis in London , Kyriacos now lives in Cyprus.
