Cypriot windsurfer Andreas Cariolou secured on Saturday a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, while competing at the 2019 RS:X World Championships, in Torbole, Italy.

Cyprus Olympic Committee and Cyprus Sports Organisation have congratulated Cariolou.

In a press release, the Cyprus Olympic Committee has said that Cariolou is the first Cypriot athlete in history to have qualified for the fifth time to compete in the Olympic Games.

Cariolou competed in the Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens finishing in the 13thplace, in Beijing in 2008 finishing in the 13th place, in London 2012 finishing in the 17th place and in Rio in 2016 finishing in 19th place.

Seven Cypriot athletes have qualified so far to compete in the Tokyo Olympics. Apart from Cariolou, these are Demetris Constantinou (shooting), Eleni Artymata (400m), Pavlos Kontides (sailing), Marilena Makri (sailing), Andri Eleftheriou (shooting) and Andreas Makris (shooting)
