The Bees conceded a last minute goal as they drew to League One side Wycombe Wanderers in their second pre-season friendly.

Dan Sparkes second half strike was cancelled out by a late goal from a Wycombe trialist, in an entertaining match at The Hive.

The opening 20 minutes saw a lively start from the Bees, without fashioning a clear cut opportunity.

Up the other end a superb sliding interception from Ricardo Santos denied the visitors an opening goal, after they got in behind the Bees defence.

Callum Reynolds then cleared a goal bound shot away from a Wycombe trialist, as the League One side upped the pressure midway through the first half.

The first half was one of few clear cut chances, meaning the sides went in goalless at the break.

The Bees had a golden opportunity to take the lead just one minute into the second half. Barham raced clear on goal, after good work from Ephron Mason-Clark, however his shot was straight at Chairboys keeper Cameron Yates.

After 52 minutes the Bees got the breakthrough as Sparkes as he tapped home, following excellent work from Antonis Vasiliou. It completes an excellent week for Sparkes after the fielder notched three assists in Tuesday’s game against Berkhamsted.

Vasiliou was next to have a sight on goal, but his shot from Mason-Clark’s cross went narrowly over the bar. The Bees looked the better in the opening exchanges of the second half.

The energetic Mason-Clark, provided the Bees with an attacking threat out on the wings, he raced to the corner of the box but couldn’t find the target with his shot. The visitors saw an effort from Alex Pattison sail over Scott Loach’s goal.

It was Mason-Clark involved again as he broke into the area and produced a fine stop from Yates. His opposite number Loach pulled off an excellent save to deny Alex Samuel after he timed his run well to go clear on the Bees goal.

The visitors equalised right at the death as one of the Chairboys’ many trialist’s snuck in at the back post to turn home a low cross. It was cruel blow for the Bees after strong second half showing.

Currie’s side will feel unfortunate not to have made it a second win on the bounce in their second pre-season match after they dominated large periods of the second half.

Attentions will now turn to the visit of Crystal Palace tonight tuesday (16th July, 19:45 KO) as the Bees continue their preparations for the 2019/20 National League season.
