November Nights in Ayios Elias
With the tourist season in Protaras consigned to memory
the lazy summer lingers well beyond official retirement.
Surely this is not November as I still feel more than comfortable in summer clothes…

Little change as sunny days make way for the onset of a sudden darkness illuminated by stars that glisten in the faultless night sky….
a visual reminder of worlds we will never embrace.
A compelling chorus permeates a reluctant autumn.

Oranges ripened under Mediterranean sun descend like giant rain drops on unsuspecting shrubs while languid palm tree branches flap against each other in the gentlest of breezes.
Sea spray from beyond Profitis Elias sharpens the scent of Cyprus lemon trees.

Nocturnal fliers keep their distance as feral cats search in vain for scraps
from the final barbeque party.

A peace exists unknown in busier times enjoyed regrettably by too few.
Ayios Elias in November. A divine blessing before winters fall.
