Cyprus 22 Israel 34

Home game against Israel ends in Defeat for the Mouflons

Cyprus played host to Israel on Saturday 10th November of what was to be a game peppered with errors.

Cyprus sporting the new stylish home kit of white with yellow side stripes. Started the brighter of the two sides and able to reap the rewards of the early pressure scoring soon after the first whistle was blown but unable to convert the kick taking the first 5 points.

This was followed by a penalty kick by Israel bringing the score back to 5-3.

However Cyprus continued to pressure Israel, which resulted in a second try opening a gap of 10-3.

Israel took advantage of some slack defending breaking through to score 10-8.

Both sides plying pressure to the other, this was to be a game defined by who would force errors upon the other.

Cyprus once again able to make a break through, this time the force of the forward pack pushing Israel back to the 22 metre line. Israel giving a penalty kick away. The kick taken quickly with the ball pushed out to the players out on the wing, who then swiftly ran through and scored resulting in 15-8.

Israel however never gave up the chase and just before the half time whistle broke through and scored.

The half time score Cyprus 15 Israel 13.

The second half was not be as fruitful as the first to the Mouflons. Some slack defending across our centre resulted in 2 early tries taking the score to 15-27 with Cyprus chasing the game.
Our Mouflons courageously fought hard keeping the ball around the 22 metre line of the Israeli half, however unable to break through and make the pressure count where it mattered most.
Cyprus finally made the breakthrough with 7 minutes to go forcing the try and bringing the score back to 22 -29. This made for an exciting finish to the game with Cyprus chasing the final try to go level on points. Unfortunately as Cyprus this time defending on their 22 metre line, whilst moving the ball out to the wing players ended in a dropped ball with Israel taking advantage and running through to take the score to 22 – 34.

A disappointing finish to the game for our Mouflons who were in the game throughout and by no means beaten by a superior team.
Getting used to playing at a higher level, there is little room for error, opponents will punish you by scoring at every opportunity.
