A man has been jailed after pleading guilty to an attempted robbery in Enfield in which he tried to attack a shop worker with a knife.

Alfie Leach, 31, (14.09.1987) of Coppies Grove N11, was sentenced on Monday, 29 October to three years imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court,.

At approximately 07:00hrs on 22 July, Leach entered a commercial store on Bowes Road, N11.

The store worker turned his back to retrieve some cigarettes for another customer, and as he did, Leach walked behind the counter and produced a kitchen knife demanding he opened the till and give him the takings. He then proceeded to try and attack the worker with the knife, causing him minor injuries.

Leach was successfully tackled to the ground by the worker, who managed to disarm him of the knife and call police.

Officers arrived and arrested Leach at the scene.

He was charged on 23 July and remanded in custody.

Investigating officer DC Joel Gregory of Enfield CID said: ““The victim of this attack was incredibly lucky to escape with only superficial wounds after Leach stabbed at him repeatedly and with so much force that the knife he was using, bent.

“I’m pleased with the result; a callous and dangerous man is now off the streets and behind bars.”
