Man jailed for carrying a knife – Finsbury Park

A man carrying a knife at Finsbury Park station has been handed a four month prison sentence.

Gary Roper, aged 47 and of Lausanne Road, Hornsey, London, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to four months imprisonment at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on 31 July.

Shortly before 7.15pm on Thursday 26 July, Roper was seen to be in an intoxicated state at the front entrance of Finsbury Park station. His actions were observed by officers as he was involved in a verbal argument with another intoxicated female at the same spot.

As officers intervened to escort the pair away from the entrance, Roper was seen to be in possession of a black kitchen knife.

At 7.21pm Roper was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and later admitted this to officers while in custody.

British Transport Police officer PS Payne said:

“Officers responded swiftly when they discovered Roper was in possession of a knife. Anyone found to be carrying offensive weapons on the rail network will face swift action by the police and serious charges will result.

Everyone has the right to go about their day without fear or intimidation of offensive weapons. We continue to work closely with other forces to bring these offenders to justice”
